Die Set Ends (Swage)

Die set ends allow for the roof deck to be easily end lapped to increase the diaphragm stiffness. The die set swages the top flange and webs of the steel deck which allows the top sheet of end lapped deck to nest tightly over the bottom sheet. When deck is not die set, the installer may have to hammer the deck to get the ends to nest together tightly to ensure good quality connections. Die Set (Swedge) ends are no longer standard but can be performed upon request. Die set ends are not available on other roof deck products.

Die set ends affect detailing and layout of the steel deck. Deck is spread in the direction of the male leg of the side seam. This allows the next sheet’s female side seam to drop over the male side seam. The die set is on the left side relative to the direction of spreading deck. The next adjacent run of deck will be on the left side of the deck relative to the spreading direction to nest over the dies set ends, as shown below.
